Zombie Drilling & Why It’s Bad For You

No…”zombie drilling” has nothing to do with the zombie apocalypse or anything of that nature (although Jiu Jitsu will definitely help you against a zombie…;) )

“Zombie Drilling” is when a training partner is more of a mannequin rather than a partner. If you or your partner practices techniques with unrealistic reactions, then dealing with those reactions is useless to your training and even worse, can cause bad training habits!

Kimura & Failed Kimura- Guillotine Combo

Check this video out! Here, my training partner at 10th Planet Van Nuys, Ammy MMA Fighter¬†Mike “Lobes” Frausto, uses me as his grappling dummy to demonstrate two super effective techniques. The basic Kimura from the closed guard and the second video explains how to snatch the guillotine off the failed Kimura.

What’s up world?

Hey guys! First and foremost, welcome to my blog. If you didn’t check out my profile, my names Gabe Calvento. I train in Nogi Jiu Jitsu and have been for about a year and a half. I am a white belt grappler at 10th Planet Van Nuys in the heart of the San Fernando Valley in California. I love the art of jiu jitsu, MMA, and that’s why I train at, in my opinion, the best gym in the world.

I love training @ 10th Planet Van Nuys under Alder Hampel (Eddie Bravo Brown Belt) because it’s the best atmosphere imaginable. We have an amazing jiu jitsu program with the best Instructor and training partners around. My coach breaks down every detail of every technique and if you ever have a quick question, there are always super helpful students around to get your back.¬†Everyone’s really cool with one another and we all make a fun and safe atmosphere so that we can really train hard and learn the best techniques possible while getting a good workout.
